As the nation's premier historically Black health sciences educator, Meharry Medical College is uniquely positioned to redefine American healthcare and address health policy and inequities from a holistic social perspective. Our vision is to change the face of American health care—and the future of our communities. Meharry physicians and researchers lead the way forward by pursuing three major priorities:
- Fix the broken economic model of health sciences education that steers too many talented, motivated health care professionals away from the primary care our communities need and that contributes to the lack of diversity in the health care workforce.
- Elevate and solidify Meharry as a top-tier academic health sciences center unlike any other—a world-renowned, historically Black institution with a unique focus on health equity—by providing the long-overdue resources to realize the potential Meharry has always had.
- Equip health care professionals—within Meharry and beyond—to eliminate health disparities that lead to worse outcomes and lower life expectancy for the underserved and communities of color everywhere. Realizing a vision this bold is only possible with a philanthropic vision on the scale it demands.
